Community donates $130K to Triple Money Monday
Approximately $130,000 was donated in the one-day event (a final total with the various matching vehicles has not yet been determined). Residents and businesses alike shared in the collective success of the day, through donations given at drop-off locations, on-line and by telephone.
The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce was once again proud to be a Triple Money Monday drop-off location.
Donations collected on Triple Money Monday are designated specifically to providing basic-needs support for local families and individuals. Additionally, all donations stay local to provide assistance to Livingston County residents.
Match support for Triple Money Monday was provided by an anonymous donor, the Howell Rotary’s Tour de Livingston, Citizens Insurance Co., DTE Energy Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI.
“Without the support of these great partners, Triple Money Monday wouldn’t have been possible this year,” said Nancy Rosso, executive director of the Livingston County United Way. “We are grateful for their strong belief in the solid work that’s being done through collective efforts in the community.”
Throughout the day, volunteers greeted guests as they stopped in to drop off a donation.
“Some special stories were shared, which just warmed our hearts,” said Rosso.
The Howell High School volleyball team was a recent winner of grant funds from the Citizens Insurance Day of Caring Youth Challenge; they “paid it forward” by donating some of the money to Triple Money Monday.
A young widow donated the last $20 in her purse “because we’re all part of the United Way family.”
The “Give It Away” 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run coordinators donated all the proceeds of their event because it could be tripled to better serve the community.
“The Board of Directors and staff of the Livingston County United Way want to thank our entire community for showing how much they care. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season,” said Rosso.
