Crowdfunding on tap for January LegUP! program
The Jan. 14 LegUP! program is all about crowdfunding, which is where dollars and dreams meet. It’s the collective effort of individual donors or investors who pool their financial resources — typically online — to help fund or start a business, project or cause.
Charlie Penner, regional director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center will speak about present and future trends in investment crowdfunding and premium crowdfunding (e.g., Kickstarter), the MILE Act, and the new Stock Exchange bill. He’ll review case studies of recent campaigns and talk about what’s needed for success.
The meeting, which runs 4:30-5:30 p.m., is free, and participants are welcome to network, learn and share. There will be light refreshments available.
LegUP! is a collaborative effort of the Howell, Brighton and Hartland chambers of commerce, Cleary University, Livingston County SBDC, SCORE and the Livingston County libraries. The group brings together entrepreneurs monthly for educational, networking and resource opportunities.
The Johnson Center is located at 3750 Cleary Drive in Howell. For more information, contact Pat Convery, president of the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, at 517.546.3920 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
