DDA hosting preservation webinar on March 21
Howell Main Street DDA is hosting a “Main Street Building Basics” webinar at 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Frontal Lobe Coworking, 110 E. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell. The meeting is open to the public, and downtown property owners and anyone interested in historic preservation are encouraged to attend.
The webinar conducted by Kelly Larson, design specialist for the State Historic Preservation Office, will focus on the history of downtowns and the evolution of older buildings over time, and historic preservation principles and practices to maintain the unique qualities of historic buildings while making them functional for today’s needs.
The presentation is a kick-off point for the Howell Main Street DDA Design Committee to select downtown buildings to receive design services intended to facilitate facade rehabilitation. Any downtown building is eligible to receive the no-cost design services, which include a schematic drawing of the proposed façade improvement, paint samples, and other information to assist with improvements. The design services are provided by the State Historic Preservation Office in the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
Any property owner interested in receiving the services must first attend a “Main Street Building Basics” presentation. An application, available at the Main Street office, can then be submitted to the Design Committee for review and approval.
