First-annual downtown Howell storefront decorating contest set
Have a favorite downtown Howell holiday storefront? Then help that business win the Howell Main Street Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) first annual Deck the Windows contest, sponsored by Cobb-Hall Insurance.
According to Howell Main Street DDA Director Cathleen Edgerly, shoppers will be able to vote for their favorite holiday storefront online with the winning store receiving $200 and the soon-to-be-coveted Golden Traveling Tree award. This new addition to Howell’s premier holiday event, was designed to attract both residents and visitors to the downtown district and drive more traffic to the businesses, unify the district, and highlight the beauty of downtown Howell during the holiday season.
“Several downtown businesses, such as Carriage House Designs, are already well known for their holiday window displays,” explained Edgerly. “We wanted to grow that excitement, and what better way than a contest held in conjunction with Howell’s fabulous Fantasy of Lights parade. Our DDA Promotions Committee got to work contacting downtown business owners, and thanks to the generosity of Cobb-Hall Insurance we have a nice cash award and trophy to present the winner.”
Voting kicks off at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov 24, at www.downtownhowell.org and runs through noon Monday, Dec. 1.
“When voting, please remember that our sponsor, Cobb-Hall, will not be eligible to win; however, they’ve promised a dazzling display,” Edgerly said. “Complete rules are available online at http://www.downtownhowell.org/deck-the-windows-decorating-contest/. One vote per person, please; Santa will be watching!”
