FT Techno of America Fowlerville Proving Ground celebrates 10 years
FT Techno of America, an Aisin Group company, celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Fowlerville Providing Ground on Oct. 12 at the facility in Handy Township. Aisin and FT Techno executives, customers, local officials and community members attended the event, which featured a variety of speakers who provided a history of the proving ground, as well as insight into its future.
Opened in the fall of 2005, the proving ground was built in phases, each adding additional capability. The 950-acre automotive proving ground offers test track rental and independent, turn-key testing services. Its customers include global automakers and Tier One suppliers with headquarters and R&D centers in southeast Michigan. Test tracks include a 20-acre vehicle dynamics area, a 3-mile oval, simulated ice and snow pads, and a variety of special-surface tracks to simulate real-world road conditions.
FT Techno offers test track access to law enforcement and emergency responders for driver training, and it annually hosts teen driving programs through Fowlerville Community Schools that are designed to enhance driving skills and encourage future engineers. As part of a sponsorship arrangement, engineering students from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University use the facility to develop vehicles used in the Society of Automotive Engineers Formula SAE program.
