Howell Chamber named 2016 “Outstanding Chamber of the Year”

At an awards ceremony at University of Michigan Stadium, the BIG HOUSE, the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce was named “Outstanding Chamber of the Year” in the large chamber category.  Howell was a finalist along with Grand Rapids and Traverse City, very strong competition. Through the Howell Chamber’s initiatives in 2016, the dedication of members, executive board and staff, this award was well-received by all who attended.

The Howell Chamber has been named a finalist for this award three years since the awards from the MACP (Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals) began this award program.

LANSING, MI– The Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals (MACP) recognized the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce with the 2016 Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award—Large Chamber Category at the MACP Leadership Conference & Annual Meeting held in Ann Arbor on October 27.
“The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce received this award based on its accomplishments in leadership and governance, financial stewardship, business advocacy and member programming,” said Bob Thomas, Director for the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals. “The chamber and its leadership are extraordinary in their innovative solutions to address workforce and business challenges in the region, their ability to see big picture issues, and a commitment to excellence in industry practices.”
The Outstanding Chamber of Commerce award is presented to chambers organizations based on a comprehensive application modeled after the US Chamber of Commerce Accreditation process for recognizing best industry practices. Applications are judged by chamber professionals from across the country and must demonstrate quality, innovation, and effectiveness of programming. The highest scoring applications receive the annual award. Other recipients from the event included the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce (mid-size category) and the Mecosta County Chamber of Commerce (small category).
The Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals is the industry association for over 300 chambers in Michigan. Its mission is to build excellence in chambers of commerce through organizational and board-level resource support, professional development for chamber staff and to promote the importance of chambers of commerce across the state.
