Humane Society of Livingston County set to re-open October 29th after major renovations
Humane Society of Livingston County Plans to Re-Open on October 29th!
We are only a few short weeks away from opening our shelter to the public again after going through extensive repairs. For anyone who has ever contracted for renovations knows, blips and delays happen and we have had our share. But with the delays comes a bright side. As Karen Kazyak, Director of Animal Welfare says, “We’ve turned a disadvantage into our advantage. We would never otherwise have been able to afford the time to take a step back and critically look at every facet of our facility, the physical space, policies, procedures and operations to make our shelter the best it can be for the animals we serve.”
One such example of change that has come from reflection and dialog with staff is the creation of an enrichment room, or a “real life room.” We’ll be transforming our conference room into a simulated living room so that our dogs will have a natural environment that feels like home. Most people do not realize just how stressful kennel life can be and while in there, we want them to feel a bit of peace.”
