Lunar New Year event set to brighten winter in downtown Howell

Lunar New Year logoHosted by the Howell Downtown Development Authority, the Lunar New Year celebration debuts on Feb. 8.

The family friendly event is a nod to Asian culture and businesses in the area. Entertainment and activities include a “blessing of the businesses” outside the Cobb-Hall Insurance building, a performance by the Silk Road Orchestra from Michigan State University at The Opera House that includes a dragon dance and traditional Chinese music, as well as two Dragon Run fun runs.

The Howell Carnegie District Library is currently hosting twice-a-month Mahjong tournaments that will run through March 21. Anyone interested in participating should call the library at 517.546.0720, ext. 106.

More information and a full schedule of Lunar New Year events, including sign-up information for the fun runs, is available at the event’s Facebook page.
