Four of the six 2013 Margaret Starkey Scholarship winners were on hand at Tuesday’s Good Morning Livingston program to receive their awards.
The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation annually awards the Margaret Starkey Scholarship to outstanding, non-traditional students who are advancing their education while working.
This year’s winners, each of whom received $1,500, are:
Victoria Payner of CertaPro Painters of Mid-Michigan, who will attend Schoolcraft College.
Ruth Pringle of Lansing Community College, Livingston County Center, who will attend Lansing Community College.
Renee David of Mott Community College, Livingston Center, who will attend Cleary University.
Nancy Avey of Battery Solutions, who will attend Cleary University.
Kari Wladischkin of Crystal Gardens Banquet Center, who will attend Cleary University.
Mike Harris of Howell of Crossroads Church of God, who will attend Moody Graduate School.
Starkey Scholarship winners attending Cleary University also received a $1,000 match from Cleary.
Applicants are nominated by their employers, and the winners chosen best exemplify the personal qualities of Margaret Starkey, who was executive assistant of the chamber for 31 years until she retired in 1987; she passed away in 2002.
