Taste Buds Food Co., 4230 E. Grand River Ave. in the Savannah Shopping Center in Genoa Township, specializes in fresh packaged food items for delivery, catering and wholesale distribution. Everything is prepared from scratch.
“We wanted to change the way people look at food-to-go,” said owner Aaron Baumeier. “Everything is fresh.”
Baumeier, who studied small business management, food management and entrepreneurship at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, runs the business with the help of his two managers: Neil Smith, his friend since the sixth grade at St. Pat’s in Brighton; and Carlos Sierras, his friend at RIT.
“Neil and I had been talking about a business,” Baumeier said. “He was working with food in Ann Arbor.”
The trio put in three months of 18-hour days before the February 2015 opening of the business, which specializes in strombolis, wraps, salads and specialty sides, all USDA-inspected and approved. The three-man crew prepares everything from scratch and by hand. Even the food package labeling is done by hand.
“We’re doing well with wholesale and distribution,” Baumeier said. He is looking to expand Taste Bud’s product line, including packaged entrees featuring the same fresh ingredients as their single items.
Taste Buds Food Co. products are sold in the Howell area at businesses including USA 2 Go on Latson Road; Eternity Brewing at 4060 E. Grand River Ave.; Lake Chemung Market at 1462 S. Hughes Road; and Vic & Bob’s at 4986 Chilson Road.
