Startup Weekend Livingston is a part of Startup Weekend, a global network of entrepreneurs, leaders and innovators. This event connects Livingston County to some of the world’s biggest names in high-growth entrepreneurship, including Google and TechStars. It also gives participants access to a local network of people interested in creating innovative, growth-oriented businesses. The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Cleary University is proud to partner with LegUP Livingston to bring this event to Livingston County.
LegUP Livingston includes organizations working to support new businesses and includes representatives from the Brighton, Hartland and Howell Area chambers of commerce, Ann Arbor SPARK, SCORE, the Michigan Small Business Development Center, the Brighton District Library, the Cromaine Library and the Howell Carnegie District Library.
At Startup Weekend, participants get together and launch startups over a weekend. Some businesses will continue after the weekend, most will not, but everyone who participates will be energized by the experience. Everyone is welcome, from experienced serial entrepreneurs to college students to high schoolers interested in business. If you have an idea and you want the perfect opportunity to try it out, this is a great place to do it. You can also participate to find out more about entrepreneurship. You will have fun, meet great people and learn something you can use. At the end of the event, participants will pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts. The best pitches will win prizes and have the experience of a lifetime.
“There are a lot of really great things happening in Livingston County,” says Dr. Marlo Rencher, executive director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship faculty chair at Cleary University. “We want to build on the momentum that Pinckney High School has generated with its new cybersecurity hub, the Sentinel Center.
