Work Skills Corporation honors former CEO by naming the Brighton headquarters location, Rodney C. Jones Building
Work Skills Corporation (WSC) dedicated its Brighton, MI headquarters in honor of Rod Jones, former WSC CEO on Wednesday, December 13, 2016. The building has been named the Rodney C Jones Building.
“Rod’s commitment to WSC will forever benefit our community and those we serve. On behalf of the WSC Board of Trustees and staff we are pleased to honor his leadership and accomplishments over the past 38 years by naming our corporate headquarters after him. Rod’s vision of an organization where all can prosper has been fulfilled and his legacy will continue on. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for those we serve is evident by the vast array of services and programs available to participants at WSC, said Tina Jackson, WSC President and CEO.”
Jones joined the United States Marine Corp in 1965 and served as a Sergeant in Vietnam until he was injured on the battlefield and medically discharged in 1968. Following his service, Rod graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and went on to receive his Master Degree from Wayne State University in Vocational Rehabilitation. He worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor for the State of Michigan and for the Detroit Medical Center. In 1978, Rod was asked to serve as the Executive Director of WSC.
As CEO, Jones has led WSC’s success through strategic positioning, strong financial management, and distinctive products and services. After establishing and growing the Company’s quality employment and training services and production operations, Rod recognized an opportunity to take the business to new levels. In 1990, he expanded the company to include staffing services through Action Associates, education through the WSC Academies, home health care through Action Home Health Care and recently diversified into Residential Services with the opening of a six bed home for traumatic brain injured persons. WSC also developed an art program and opened Studio West in Downtown Brighton.
As a retired Service Disabled Marine, Rod started a number of Service Disabled Veteran owned businesses that support the programs and services of Work Skills Corporation.
Rod Jones stepped down from his role in January, 2016 as CEO after 38 years with the 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. He currently provides support as an Operations Advisor.
